As the cold war Prof Soyinka has declared on US President-elect Donald Trump , continues, the Nigeria's Nobel Laureate has finally eaten the humble pie acknowledging the indispensability of Mr. Trump on the global stage as the leader of the world's strongest economy and most powerful country.
While speaking at a press conference at Freedom Park in Lagos, Nigeria, Prof Wole Soyinka chided President Buhari for congratulating the Gambian outgoing President , Yahya Jammeh which he said amounted to chasing shadows all over the place.
Conversely, in what appeared like a reversal of his stance against Mr. Trump, the Nobel Laureate said while is foolhardy of Buhari to congratulate Jammeh who he described as 'petty little dictator'
As for Trump , Prof. Wole Soyinka said there is no way Trump could be avoided.
His words: "Please help me beg president Buhari. I don't say he shouldn't congratulate Trump. There's no way one can avoid Trump, but you can avoid little petty little dictators like Jammeh in Gambia, who is the opposite of everything one expects of a true African leader towards his or her citizens. Please President Buhari, restricts yourself to those you absolutely have to congratulate."
