I bet some persons will refer me as a prophet of doom for talking about war, but I take solace that there was a time a Journalist, Ahmad Salkadi, was labelled a noisemaker when he was issuing early warnings about what is to come from members of a Jihad sect that later metamorphosed into BokoHaram. Seven years on, the Nigeria security forces are still battling the menace of these brutal and heartless extremists dreaded in northern Nigeria.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja has obviously succumbed to pressure from President Muhammadu Buhari to jail the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, by any means possible. Justice Nyako is undoubtedly following the scripts given to her by the State Security Service (SSS) to deny Nnamdi Kanu bail application and then allow a secret trial. The secret trial is to allow fictitious witnesses whose names and addresses will not be recorded by the court but their testimony against the defendants will be accepted by the trial Judge. Justice Nyako has boldly stated that it is her courtroom and she can do whatever pleases her without recourse to the rule of law.
Nnamdi Kanu is leading his people, the Indigenous People of Biafra, to seek their right to self-determination, which is guaranteed both by the Nigeria constitution and Article 20 of the Africa Charter on People and Human Right. Self-determination is recognized by the United Nations and enshrined in the Universal Human Right Charter of the UN. IPOB has never been known to have engaged in any form of violence or illegality in over 80 countries where they are domiciled and registered.
Nnamdi Kanu has not committed any crime but was abducted by the SSS and spuriously charged with treasonable felony and alleged involvement in acts of terrorism, alongside three other Biafrans, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi, and Chidiebere Onwudiwe. Moreover, international human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, has condemned the continuous extrajudicial executions and violence against his people, by the murderous Nigeria security forces. The Nigeria government through its security forces has continued to terrorize the people of Biafra while accusing their leader of “acts of terrorism.”
Nnamdi Kanu has been granted bail and acquitted unconditionally by courts of competent jurisdiction but the court orders were flagrantly disobeyed by the Nigeria government. Rather than obey and uphold the rule of law, President Buhari hurriedly organized his maiden presidential media chat where he berated the judges for their ruling and demanded the case to be reassigned to another judge who will do his biddings. The Nigeria government has no tangible evidence against Nnamdi Kanu and that is the core reason the SSS wants a secret trial, in order to substantiate the lies and falsehood against him by paid agents who will be acting as witnesses.
The peaceful approach of the people of Biafra to seek their right to self-determination should not be seen as cowardice by the Nigeria government and its supporters. The Nigeria government has launched several military operations in Biafra land, so as to intimidate and suppress the people of Biafra from protesting against subsequent injustice and illegality from the trial Judge against their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Exactly as it was done before the Biafra Genocide of 1967-70, when an invasion called ‘police action’ was declared in Biafra land, the Nigeria military has begun “Operation Python Dance” and “Operation Eagle Eye” in every nook and cranny of Biafra land, in addition to “Operation Crocodile Smile” launched earlier.
The show of military force in Biafra land is a waste of time, as the people of Biafra have often exhibited that they are not afraid of the bullets from the Nigeria security forces even when defenseless. While northern Nigeria is under siege by the Islamic terror group, BokoHaram, the Nigeria government prefers to invade the peaceful land of Biafra to instill panic and fear.
Let nobody claim ignorance of the fact that Nnamdi Kanu is commanding millions of Biafrans who have sworn to get Biafra or die trying. The protests and demonstrations against his detention should enlighten the ignorant ones that the people of Biafra will not sit idle while justice is being transverse against their leader. The people of Biafra fully complied with the order from their leader for a sit-at-home protest in Biafra Land on September 23, 2016 and will surely obey him if he demands more from them. The mild protest by Biafrans outside the court premises after the ruling for a secret trial should be a call for caution to those calling for Nnamdi Kanu to be jailed.
The people of Biafra shall be vengeful if they are provoked into defending themselves against another warfare by the Nigeria government. The atrocities committed against our grandparents and parents in 1967-70 have not yet been atoned and the scars still visible, the Nigeria state shall witness an unprecedented destruction that has never been seen if Biafrans are forced to react. Common sense must be made to prevail now that the people of Biafra are being peaceful and law-abiding. Nnamdi Kanu will not be another case of Ken Saro-Wiwa who was tried in secret and murdered by the northern oligarchy led government of Nigeria.
