The Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, on Monday said contrary to the information currently available to the public, the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly has not rejected the nomination of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He said what the Senate had done was just to step down Magu’s screening until issues surrounding the security report concerning him are cleared.
He also said contrary to media reports, the Senate had not indicted the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Babachir Lawal, of any wrongdoing.
He said Lawal’s investigation by the Senate was still work in progress.
Ndume spoke with State House correspondents shortly meeting President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed door at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
On Magu, he said what Senate will do is to clear from President Muhammadu Buhari whether it should go ahead with his approval process despite the security report.
