The Nigerian federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari is set to probe all projects executed by the nine new universities set up under former president, Goodluck Jonathan. Rasheed Abubakar the executive secretary of National Universities Commission (NUC), disclosed the start of the probe on Tuesday, December 20. Abubakar represented President Buhari at the maiden convocation of one of the new universities set up by Jonathan, the Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), which is located in Ebonyi state.
According to Premium Times he said the probe was aimed towards eliminating wastage and ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of resources used in creating the universities. He also went on to warn the administration of such universities that he will not condone corruption of any sort in all federal universities under his watch. The executive secretary made it clear that he expected all federal universities to set a sterling example in matters of good governance and financial management.
