Palpable fear seems to have gripped residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, following reports that most of the fleeing Boko Haram members dislodged from Sambisa forest, are presently planning coordinated attacks in the city.
This is coming, following the arrest of a suspected Boko Haram member, in the popular Utako market, Abuja.
The suspect revealed that a lot of his colleagues, were already in Abuja, waiting to unleash mayhem.
According to a statement from the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, the suspected Boko Haram member (Usman), was found at Utako market, with a “Qur’an, and a chaplet on his neck, while trying to lobby people in the market.”
This is coming, after a security agency under the control of AMAC, arrested Usman.
The suspect was said to have been handed over to the Nigerian Army at the Mabila Barracks, Abuja.
Spokesperson to the AMAC security agency, Kinglsey Madaki, confirming the arrest, called on residents to be watchful at all times, and report suspicious movements to security agencies, to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army had on Wednesday, said it had also recovered Abubakar Shekau’s Qur’an and flag in Camp Zero, the Boko Haram’s Headquarters in Sambisa forest.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Lucky Irabor, who made this known while giving Journalists update on “Operation Rescue Final’’, in Maiduguri, said: “We believe that the Holy Book and the flag were abandoned by Abubakar Shekau, while he escaped,” he said, indicating that the Boko Haram leader may still be alive.
“The book will be taken to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Burutai, for onward presentation to Mr President.
“We have also made a lot of arrests. Our troops in Damboa, arrested about 15 Boko Haram members. We also arrested one Musa, from Potiskum, on Christmas Day.
“On December 26, our troops also intercepted two Boko Haram suspects in Maiduguri.
“We therefore, warn residents of the State, to be wary of people coming to hide in and around their houses.
“We are also warning residents to report any suspected Boko Haram members hiding in their houses, to the relevant security agencies, and any failure to do that, would tantamount to supporting and sympathizing with the sect’s activities,” Irabor, a Major General said.
