Igbo Improvement Union (IIU), a sociopolitical pressure group, at the weekend called on the federal government to quickly establish a commission of inquiry into the alleged extrajudicial killing of 150 Igbo youths by Nigerian security forces as contained in the recent Amnesty International report.
While condemning the killing and describing it as “inhuman act”, the group warned against sweeping the matter under the carpet, insisting that the perpetrators must be fished out and made to face appropriate sanctions.
The group also stressed the need for Nigerian security forces to be trained on rules of engagement in dealing with civil rights protests, noting that mowing down unarmed agitators in a cold-blooded manner is the most callous way of handling such situation, and they must face the law to serve as a deterrent
