Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has insisted that City rivals, Manchester United, are still in the race to win the Premier League title this season.
Jose Mourinho’s side are 13 points behind Chelsea, after a stop-start first half of the season.
United are, however, on a nine-game unbeaten run and host Middlesbrough on Saturday. Guardiola has refused to rule them out of contention.
He told reporters: “Six teams are fighting for the title. It will be a good fight until the end of the season.”
Guardiola himself will be hoping to take maximum points, when they travel to fellow title rivals, Liverpool, on New Year’s Eve.
“Liverpool are contenders [for the title], definitely. I was lucky enough to play against Jurgen Klopp, we know each other well,” the Spaniard added.
“We have to equal their intensity – Anfield will play a big role.
“You cannot compare to what Liverpool and United did [in the 1980s and 90s]. Step by step, that’s the way to get better.”
