Presidency In Disarray, As Buhari’s Most Vibrant Minister ‘Runs Away’, Abandons Ministerial Duties.

The Presidency on Sunday evening, has reacted to media reports on the purported appointment of Amina Mohammed, the Minister of Environment, as Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, UN, saying “she remains our Minister of Environment.”

This is coming, following reports that the Environment Minister, had abandoned her Ministerial duties, for a better job at the United Nations.

In a tweet on Sunday, Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, assured that Nigerians would be fully informed on the where about of the Minister, in due course.

“There is a lot of exuberance on the net concerning a UN job for Mrs Amina Mohammed. She remains our Minister of Environment.

“If there is anything on this that is released officially, we will let Nigerians know.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that social and traditional media outfits, had reported that the Environment Minister, was set to be appointed as the UN Deputy Secretary General.

A tweet by Pamela Falk, a CBS News Reporter for the United Nations, obtained by NAN, stated that the world body would soon release a statement confirming the appointment of the Nigerian Minister of Environment.

She is expected to be Deputy to Antonio Guterres, who will assume office as the UN Secretary-General, on January 1, 2017.

Recall, that Mrs Mohammed, was appointed Minister of Environment by President Muhammadu Buhari, in November 2015.

She was also recently appointed by President Buhari, to serve in the African Union, AU, Reform Steering Committee, as the Nigeria’s Representative.

Mrs Mohammed, who hails from Gombe State, in the North-East, had formerly served as an Adviser to the outgoing UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon. she enjoys so much goodwill.’’
