Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is not slow to seeing
potentials in online sites, especially social media sites, and his
acquisition of almost all popular social media sites have proved that.
When it was announced that Facebook was about to acquire Instagram,
users accused the service of 'selling out' and raised concerns over
Facebook using their data to disturb them with adverts.
And he promised to keep Instagram running as an independent program so it will still be able to be used on rival social networks, such as Twitter - A social media site he also wanted.
He said:
This is an
important milestone for Facebook because it's the first time we've ever
acquired a product and company with so many users. We don't plan on
doing many more of these, if any at all.
Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together.
We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience.
And now, the Facebook-owned photo-sharing, Instagram has passed 600 million, adding 100 million in the past six months alone.
Making the announcement of the milestone in an official blog post,
Instagram said that in a year where “a lot has changed,” the Instagram
community has “remained constant”.
You now have more ways to share than ever before with
Instagram Stories, live video and disappearing photos and videos in
Direct. Additionally, with updated safety tools that give you more
control over comments and other parts of your experience, we’re working
to make Instagram safer than ever for connection and self-expression,
said Instagram.
From all of us at Instagram, thank you for being you. We can’t wait to see what you’ll make next.
