REPORT reaching our newsroom tonight says there was a heavy exchange of gunfire between Boko Haram insurgents and Nigerian troops on Wednesday in a furious attempt to capture a military base in one of Nigeria's northeast desert states of Yobe.
Reports say the unexpected attack took place at about 5:30 p.m. by the terrorists who invaded the base from three locations before hot exchange of gunfire ensued.
The Nigerian military had to unavoidably withdraw but later called for reinforcement from Buni yadi as the intensive fighting continued.
As luck would have it, they were able to retake the military base from the terrorists but not without a cost as both sides suffered casualties.

Three soldiers reportedly lost their lives with scores missing while some military hardware were reportedly lost in the ding-dong battle.
Our source said that attempts to reach Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, for comments remained futile as he did not respond to or return his repeated calls.
