Senate Passes 2017 Budget For Second Reading As Saraki Reshuffles Committees (Check Out The New Appointments)

The Nigerian Senate has passed the 2017 budget for second reading after a 2-day deliberation on the appropriation bill submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari. 
The senators began discussing the bill on Wednesday, January 25 and after another thorough debate on Thursday, January 26 approved it to move to the next legislative stage which is the second reading.
 
The Senate had promised the president that it would quickly pass the budget in order to provide the Nigerian government with funds to get the economy out of recession.
Also, the Senate President Bukola Saraki has reshuffled appointments of the upper house of legislature’s working committees.
Some of the changes that have emerged is the appointment of former Senate Majority Leader Ali Ndume as INEC committee chairman. 

Other appointments in the reshuffled committees include newly-returned Senator Magnus Abe, who won back his seat in the recent Rivers rerun on December 10, and is now FERMA committee chairman.
Senator George Sekibo now takes over senate interior committee while Senator Abubakar Kyari is chairing the senate defense committee and Senator Atai Aidoko is in now in charge of senate’s SDGs committee.
The senate also added three new committees in the reshuffle. They are Legislative Compliance, FERMA and SDGs to bring its number of committees to 68 from 65.
