It was shocking as the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, 19 Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, among others, on Monday night, dumped the meeting convened in Abuja, by the party, meant to deliberate the best budgetary method.
Post-Nigeria, learnt that that the absence of the APC Governors at the meeting, might be in connection with the fear that has gripped the party over President Muhammadu Buhari’s ailing health, which has worsened in the last few days.
Recall, that recent reports revealed that Buhari’s deteriorating health, has got to a point where the Doctors are taking, “extreme measures” to ensure that he eats.
“Buhari has progressively lost weight, due to his illness and course of treatment”, a sources had disclosed.
A different source, disclosed that the treatment had partially affected Buhari’s voice at one point, making it almost impossible to hear him.
The dignitaries, including the APC National Chairman, John Oyegun; Governors of Imo, Kogi, and Zamfara States; as well as Deputy Governors of Plateau and Kwara States; the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma; and the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; among others, had arrived the venue of the event, Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, before it was postponed to next week.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, PGF, and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, who announced the postponement, said it coincided with other major events.
Okorocha, said the issues to be discussed at the meeting, required the presence of Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo; Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.
He said: “We wanted the Acting President to be here in person. This programme coincides with other programmes, because there are a lot of questions that might come up that require national answers, and most of the Legislators; the Senate President and Speaker, are also engaged in other programmes. And only last Friday, most Governors left back to their States”.
A quick check by Post-Nigeria however, revealed that there was no ‘major event’ across the country, as claimed by Okorocha, that might have made the 19 APC Governors not to attend the crucial meeting.
The only major event, was the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Stakeholders meeting, that was held at the Ekiti State Governor’s Lodge, Abuja, which was not meant for the APC Governors to attend.
A top APC source, revealed that the absence of the major players in the APC meeting, was hugely connected to the political realignment ahead of 2019.
